Get a Free Estimate — 305-858-6307Warning signs include dead or hanging branches (“widow makers”), a visibly leaning trunk, large cracks in the trunk or major limbs, fungal growth at the base indicating rot, more than 25–30% of the canopy dead or dying, roots damaged by construction, and any tree within striking distance of your home or power lines. For trees or branches within 10 feet of power lines, we recommend involving the power company. In Miami’s subtropical climate, heavy rains amplify these risks. Our certified tree care professionals offer free evaluations across Miami-Dade County.
Most residential trees in Miami should be professionally trimmed every 1–3 years depending on species and growth rate. Fast-growing species like Ficus and Laurel Oaks may need attention annually. All trees should be evaluated and trimmed before June, the start of Florida’s hurricane season, which reduces wind resistance and minimize storm damage risk. Our team follows ANSI A300 pruning standards on every job.

Yes, in many cases. Miami-Dade County and municipalities like Coral Gables and Coconut Grove require permits before removing protected trees including Live Oaks, Mahogany, Gumbo Limbo, and others above a threshold diameter. Our team is familiar with the permitting process and can advise on requirements and assist with applications. Removing a protected tree without a permit can result in significant fines.
Yes, this is one of our specialties. We safely remove trees in technically challenging locations including trees adjacent to homes, pools, fences, and power lines. For trees or branches within 10 feet of power lines, we typically recommend involving the power company. For large trees in confined spaces, we offer crane-assisted removal, lifting sections out with precision to protect your structures throughout the process.
Our standard service includes full cleanup and hauling of all branches, logs, and wood chips. We leave your property clean and ready. If you’d like to keep wood for firewood or chipping for mulch, just let us know. Learn more about our debris removal service.
Not every damaged or diseased tree needs to be removed. Skilled pruning, cabling, bracing, or disease treatment can often restore health and structural integrity. We only recommend removal when the tree poses a genuine safety hazard or is beyond recovery. We never recommend removal just to generate more revenue.
The optimal window for most species in Miami is late winter through early spring (February–April), before the main growing season and before hurricane season begins in June. Flowering trees should be pruned just after they bloom. See our full tree trimming service page.
Trimming primarily refers to aesthetic shaping and reducing crown size. Pruning is more targeted and health-focused: removing dead, diseased, or crossing branches to improve structure, airflow, and the tree’s long-term health. Both follow ANSI A300 industry standards when performed by qualified professionals. A complete service visit from Grove Tree Service incorporates both.
Tree topping means cutting the main trunk or large scaffold branches back to stubs. It causes massive unprotected wounds that invite disease and decay, triggers rapid weakly attached regrowth that is actually more hazardous than the original canopy, and ultimately shortens the tree’s life. Grove Tree Service never tops trees. We use proper crown reduction techniques that preserve the tree’s natural form and structural integrity.
Tree trimming costs in Miami vary based on several key factors: the size and height of the tree, the number of trees being serviced, site accessibility (narrow gates, overhead lines, structures nearby), the species and canopy density, and the overall condition of the tree. Trimming a small ornamental tree is a very different job from pruning a large, mature Live Oak or Ficus. Scheduling multiple trees in a single visit typically reduces the cost per tree. The only way to know your exact price is a free on-site estimate, since every property is different. Request yours here.
Most palm species should be trimmed once per year, typically in late winter before hurricane season. Over-trimming (removing too many green fronds) stresses the tree, creates a “hurricane cut” that increases wind vulnerability, and depletes the palm of nutrients stored in the fronds. Only yellow, brown, dead, or hazardous fronds should be removed. Learn more about our palm tree care services.
Browning fronds can result from natural aging, nutrient deficiencies (potassium, magnesium, or manganese, common in South Florida’s sandy soils), lethal yellowing disease, Ganoderma root rot, or overwatering. Rapid die-off or yellowing that moves up the canopy warrants a professional assessment from our tree care professionals.
Yes. A mature coconut weighs 2–7 pounds and can fall from 30–80 feet, causing serious injury or property damage. Coconut palms near walkways, parking areas, or homes should have coconuts removed 2–3 times per year as part of routine palm tree care.
We have experience with all South Florida palm species including: Royal Palms, Coconut Palms, Sabal Palms (Florida State tree), Queen Palms, Foxtail Palms, Bismarck Palms, Date Palms, Areca Palms, Bottle Palms, Montgomery Palms, and Fishtail Palms. Each species has different care requirements and our team has the species-specific knowledge to treat every palm correctly.
Stump grinding costs vary depending on a few key factors: the diameter and height of the stump above ground, the hardness of the wood species (a dense Live Oak or Mahogany stump is significantly more work than a soft Bottlebrush or Palm), the depth of grinding required, the number of surface roots that need to be addressed, and site accessibility. Tight spaces between fences, pools, or structures require smaller equipment and more time. Grinding multiple stumps in a single visit generally reduces the cost per stump. We grind several inches below grade so the area can be re-sodded or replanted. See our full stump grinding service page.
Stumps are tripping hazards; decaying wood attracts termites and carpenter ants that can spread to your home; old stumps harbor fungal diseases like Ganoderma that can infect nearby trees; and stumps reduce curb appeal and property value. Stump grinding eliminates all these concerns, and we fill the cavity with wood chips so the area can be re-sodded or landscaped.
After professional stump grinding, root regrowth is very unlikely for most species. Without the stump and crown to feed them, surface roots gradually decay over 1–2 years. Some vigorous species like Ficus and Chinaberry may produce sprouts from residual root tissue, which can be removed manually or with an approved herbicide.
Miami’s hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. To prepare: schedule professional wind-resistance pruning in March–May to reduce canopy density and remove weak branches; remove dead or dying trees near structures; evaluate structural defects and install cabling or bracing for valuable trees; remove coconuts from palm trees before storms. Never hurricane-cut palms: removing green fronds actually weakens them. Learn more about our hurricane tree preparation service.
South Florida’s most wind-resistant native species include: Live Oak (Quercus virginiana), Gumbo Limbo, Sabal Palm (the Florida state tree), Simpson’s Stopper, Pigeon Plum, Crabwood, and Mahogany. Species like Ficus, Australian Pine, Brazilian Pepper, Carrotwood, and many fast-growing exotics are more prone to wind failure and should be carefully maintained.
In many cases yes, especially if a tree fell and damaged a covered structure. Most Florida homeowner’s insurance policies cover storm-related tree removal when the tree damaged your home, fence, or car. Document damage with photos before cleanup, contact your insurer before work begins, and submit a written estimate to your adjuster. Grove Tree Service regularly works with homeowners and insurers on storm damage claims.
Yes, Grove Tree Service provides 24-hour emergency tree service, 7 days a week, across Miami-Dade County. Call 305-858-6307 any time for fallen trees, hanging limbs, roof damage, or blocked driveways. Learn more about our 24/7 emergency tree service.
A tree emergency is any situation posing immediate risk to life, property, or access: a tree or large limb fallen on your home, car, or fence; a tree visibly leaning toward a structure; a large hanging widow maker over an occupied area; a fallen tree blocking a road or driveway; or any storm damage actively causing structural risk. When in doubt, call us; we would rather assess and find no danger than have someone get hurt.
Response time depends on current call volume. For life-threatening emergencies, we dispatch a crew as soon as possible, typically within a few hours. During major storm events we work through nights and weekends to serve as many clients as possible. We are based in South Miami, keeping our crews close to all of Miami-Dade County.
Tree service pricing depends on: tree size (height, trunk diameter, canopy spread); species (Ficus and large palms are more complex); location (near structures, power lines, or pools requires more rigging); equipment access; number of trees (multiple trees in one visit reduces per-tree cost); type of service (trimming vs full removal); and emergency vs scheduled work. We always provide free, transparent, written estimates.
The lowest price is not always the best value with tree work. Before choosing the cheapest quote, verify: Is the company fully licensed and insured with workers’ compensation? (Without workers’ comp, you may be liable for injuries on your property.) Are they using professional equipment and following ANSI A300 standards? Do they have verifiable reviews? Grove Tree Service is fully licensed, fully insured, and has served Miami since 1981.
For standard residential tree work, we typically do not require a deposit; payment is due upon completion. For large commercial projects, a partial deposit may be requested and will be clearly outlined in your written estimate. Call 305-858-6307 or request an estimate online.
Yes. Grove Tree Service & Landscaping is fully licensed by the State of Florida and carries comprehensive general liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage on all employees. Workers’ comp coverage is especially important: without it, if a worker is injured on your property, Florida law may hold the homeowner financially responsible. Always ask any tree company to provide proof of both before allowing work to begin.
Verify: (1) general liability and workers’ comp insurance certificates; (2) Google or Yelp reviews; (3) a physical business address; (4) professionally marked equipment and trucks; (5) a written contract or estimate before any work begins. Be cautious of storm chasers who appear after hurricanes with no local presence or documentation.

Yes, we have decades of experience in Coral Gables, which has some of Florida’s strictest tree protection ordinances. Our team is familiar with the city’s Tree Removal Permit process, required documentation, and approved contractor requirements. We can guide you through the entire permitting process.
Absolutely, Coconut Grove is one of our most active service areas. Ficus species develop massive surface root systems that can damage driveways, pools, and foundations. Our team has safely trimmed and removed hundreds of large Ficus trees throughout the Grove over the past 45 years.
